Thousands of workers face job losses overnight as another PFI scheme collapses into debt
The British ruling class staggers on to yet another financial disaster of which the working class will have to pay the price. The huge conglomerate Carillion, which has a particular speciality in construction, has gone into liquidation and this is threatening to end the jobs of 20,000 workers in Britain. Carillion and owes money to 30,000 small businesses which could now go under as a result.
The ruling class no longer even has any desire to pretend that its system is working. So blatant are its lies and hypocrisy regarding public spending and finance, that it is now promising to underwrite the debt of Carillion, hand over £39 billion to the EU at the same time when they say there is ‘no magic money tree’ and cannot pay essential public workers a pay rise. They must be confident and contemptuous to think they can get away with such blatant robbery of public money! Just as when the banks crashed 10 years ago the state will write off the debt, but it is the working class who must pay in cuts to public services, wage freezes and squeezes and taxes.
The British ruling class’s total blindness and dogma means they can not relax their commodification of all aspects of life even after the total failure of the Public Finance Initiatives, The PFI was the handing over of public services and provision to private corporations to run, a policy which has placed a massive burden on the NHS. Now the Government’s own auditing body the National Audit Office has released a report, just days after the Carrillion fiasco. This reveals that all of the 716 private finance deals in the public sector have seen little if any financial benefit and that they have cost 40% more than had the state been directly involved. They will try to squeeze profit out of anything whatever the cost. This ‘free market’ ideology is nothing but state monopoly capitalism which enforces internal markets in hospitals and schools and enforces exploitation of public sector workers and hands money to the rich!
Labour has as usual bleated a pathetic complaint about the Government’s handling of the current fiasco. Of course, it with Labour Chanceller of the Exchequor Gordon Brown’s encouragement that most of the PFI loans were taken out. All the Labour leaders have called for is the PFI schemes to be examined on case by case basis and taken into public hands if they don’t have a good return. This is basically a slightly curtailed version of what we have. They cannot tackle the real problem which is the capitalist system itself and the ruling class who are getting richer and richer from the labour of the rest of us and stealing money put aside for public services to underwrite their failed ventures. Labour is no answer and has no intention of bringing about socialism.
The rich exploit the working class and the only way they can keep getting richer is to force our wages down and use our taxes to prop up their failed schemes. It is daylight robbery! The executives of Carillion and other corporate and bank bosses are nothing but robber barons who must be overthrown for good!
Down with the robber barons of PFI!
Get rid of the rich!
